A (Web) Face for Radio: NPR Builds a Platform on Drupal 7
Over the past year, NPR has developed a turn-key web platform for public radio stations. Using Drupal 7 as a base, it allows stations to quickly create a beautiful and dynamic site that leverages the NPR news story API. The goal is to eventually have up to 200 stations using this tool.
This session will walk the audience through our journey: from a vanilla Drupal 7 (alpha!) install, through the creation of 1000s of lines of custom code, to the "finished" product.
It will touch upon a wide variety of topics: contrib vs. custom modules; configuration management; server architecture; reducing complexity for site admins; integration with third-party software; developing and managing an install profile; contributing back to drupal; hacking core; using the NPR API.
